A little about me...
Living near Newcastle harbour has inspired me to paint the coal ships and the ever changing scenes around Newcastle’s working harbor and windswept beaches. I have lived near the sea for the past 40 years of my life and the first 20 years were in an isolated country landscape. Both of these environments have had a strong influence on my painting.
I have taught painting in regional galleries throughout Sydney, Newcastle and
Maitland over the past ten years as well as currently teaching private classes and giving workshops to groups. I currently work at my private studio in Mayfield, a suburb of Newcastle, NSW.
I attended the Swinburne College of Graphic Art and Design (Melbourne) in the 1960s and I began my art career in the Graphic Art industry in Melbourne where I learnt to paint and design according to the needs of the client.
I worked in the graphic art industry for 10 years then took a certificate course in painting at Tafe in Warrnambool in the 80s. By the mid 1990s I had moved to the North coast of NSW and progressed to run my own business in architectural drawing. It was about this time I returned to drawing and painting.
I studied a degree in Fine Art majoring in painting at Newcastle University graduating in 2001. My techniques and subject matter can be quite diverse which reflects my eclectic early training, and there is a distinctive style woven into the painted and drawn images.
My major interests are painting in Oils and Soft Pastels. Subjects include Maritime scenes, Landscapes and Seascapes.
